Service Description: <div style='text-align:Left;'><div><div><p><span>Map to provide REST Services for Virginia Department of Energy, Geology and Mineral Resources Web Map. Web mapping application is located at https://energy.virginia.gov/webmaps/GeologyMineralResources/.</span></p><p><span>This map viewer shows the generalized bedrock geology of the Commonwealth of Virginia, compiled at a scale of 1:500,000. Geologic units are shown as polygons and identified by age and lithology, generally following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. Stratigraphic contacts between map units, faults, dikes, and key beds are shown as lines. Points show the locations of mine features, water wells and well-derived data, and thermal springs. Some information has been reported to the Virginia Department of Energy by others. The accuracy of data is variable, and datasets may contain errors and omissions. More detailed geologic maps and reports should be consulted, and on-site observations should be made to verify geologic conditions and the locations and characteristics of mine features and wells.</span></p></div></div></div>
