Today, a variety of natural rock materials are extracted from mines, pits, and quarries the State for many uses. The purpose of this report is to describe the importance of mineral development, exclusive of fuels and metals. The report touches on the need for the resources, their importance to the State and local economies, and problems associated with developing the resources. The repost describes the sequence of mineral development including exploration, extraction, processing and reclamation. Permitting, environmental safeguards, and land-use controls are included as well as references pertaining to specific resource commodities.
